It is normal for vaginal structures to develop laxity due to aging, weight loss and pregnancy. With loss of natural estrogen during menopause, the lining of the vagina and the strength of the labial tissues are negatively affected and atrophy, dryness, laxity, urinary incontinence and pain during intimacy may develop. Fractora V is a comfortable in-office microneedling device with radiofrequency that employs needles that are slightly thinner and shorter (therefore gentler) than that of MORPHEUS8 V. Fractora V can therefore be a better choice for younger patients experiencing stress urinary incontinence that is early in onset and not yet severely limiting quality of life.
The small pins in the hand piece are gently inserted in the lining of the vaginal wall and a pain-free radiofrequency current is delivered through each pin, creating a localized thermal injury that heals with new, more youthful tissue. The new tissue that forms contains new collagen, elastin, ground substances and support tissues to produce the enhanced tightening for the lax vagina, as well as enhanced tone. New mucinous secreting cells also form to provide more natural lubrication, which is characteristic of more youthful vaginal tissue, decreasing dryness, irritation and pain during intimacy. The Fractora V is performed in a 360-degree fashion, withdrawing gradually until the entire vaginal side walls, floor and ceiling have been treated.
Patients require little preparation prior to a Fractora V treatment, however it is advisable to stop aspirin or ibuprofen-type drugs three days prior to a treatment and to avoid having the treatment performed during your menstrual cycle. Topical numbing cream is applied, and Pro Nox (nitrous oxide) is also available. We usually advise that Aquaphor be applied for 5-7 days after a treatment and that sex and tampon use be avoided for the same period of time. You may experience a mild degree of vaginal discharge over several days, but this dissipates quickly.
Following a series of three treatments, patients are recommended to begin a non-ablative maintenance treatment (FORMA V) once every 3 – 4 months to achieve the best results. Some women will notice immediate results following a Fractora V treatment session. However, because the treatment is designed to gradually build up collagen and elastin production, it can take several weeks or a full three treatments for final results to be realized. Since there is no significant recovery period other than a mild sensitivity associated with a Fractora V treatment, patients can return to normal daily activities immediately.
