What is Vtone?

Over time, the stresses of aging, pregnancy, childbirth, hormone fluctuations and menopause can weaken women’s pelvic floor muscles, causing stress urinary incontinence, urge incontinence, as well as decreased sexual sensation and satisfaction.

To strengthen the pelvic floor and vaginal canal muscles and to address these issues, Dr. Samuels offers the VTone procedure. VTone is a gentle, non-surgical FDA cleared technology that provides Electrical Muscle Stimulation (EMS), paired with neuromuscular re-education, to rehabilitate the pelvic floor and vaginal canal muscles, including the muscles around the female urethra.

What is stress urinary incontinence?

Stress urinary incontinence (SUI) occurs when urine leaks due to sudden pressure on the bladder and urethra, causing sphincter muscles to briefly open.

The increased prevalence of incontinence in women compared to men is due to women’s unique health issues around pregnancy, childbirth and menopause.

EmpowerRF by InMode is the most advanced multi-functional platform delivering excellent women’s wellness therapies. This versatile in-office system provides neuromuscular re-education for weak pelvic floor muscles and relief from stress, urge and mixed urinary incontinence and pain. It improves blood circulation, targets subdermal adipose tissue and strengthens abdominal and pelvic floor muscles. Empower RF includes the therapeutic options of Fractora V, Votiva Forma V, VTone, Morpheus8 Face, Morpheus8 Body, Exion Fractional RF, Morpheus8 V, Tone and Aviva.

Many of these InMode device treatments can be combined together in the same treatment session.  Dr. Samuels and her nurse providers will be happy to suggest complimentary and adjunctive treatments that will ensure the most thorough result based on your symptoms, and all combination packages will be discounted.

VTone, on the Empower platform by InMode, is a highly effective and non-invasive treatment that helps to tone and train muscles of the pelvic floor and vaginal canal. During a VTone treatment a single-use electrostimulator, about the size of a tampon, is placed into the vaginal canal to trigger involuntary muscle contractions. These contractions tone and tighten the pelvic floor, particularly those muscle fibers weakened or overstretched during pregnancy and childbirth.

VTone treatments are performed in the office, usually in a series of 6-8 treatments over three months. VTone is quick and painless procedure – completed in 30 minutes, without anesthesia, surgery or downtime. Most patients report increased urinary control, reduced bladder leakage, and improved sexual sensation after a VTone series. Results are cumulative, with most patients realizing optimal strengthening 1-2 weeks after their final treatment. Maintenance treatments are performed annually. VTone quickly restores patient confidence and quality of life, without surgery or downtime.

Combined with Morpheus8V and Votiva on the Empower platform by InMode, VTone provides the most aggressive nonsurgical option to treat female urinary incontinence to date. This allows women to manage their urinary leakage with an easy, FDA-cleared procedure, and to avoid bladder mesh surgery with all of the potential surgical complications including mesh erosion, scarring, and painful intercourse for both partners.

VTone is recommended for any woman who experiences urinary incontinence who wishes to avoid a bladder mesh surgery. Women who wish to strengthen their pelvic floor muscles for sexual enhancement for themselves and their partner should also benefit from treatment.

Surgical labiaplasty is an outpatient procedure done under local anesthesia that can take between 45 minutes to 2 hours. The most common forms of vaginal rejuvenation surgery are labia minora reduction, labia majora reduction, clitoral hood reduction, labia majora augmentation and vaginal tightening or reconstruction.
inmode tone applicator We can place InMode Tone, an electrical muscle stimulating applicator, on each side of your belly button to tone your abs while you are receiving a VTone treatment. Tone works by emitting electrical muscle stimulation to the sit-up muscles that simulates voluntary muscle contractions on body areas for more muscle tone and definition
Votiva Forma V is a comfortable device that provides uniform volumetric deep heating tissue treatment with real-time temperature control. Forma V does not require the healing time of a vaginal rejuvenation laser, but works similarly to restore vaginal lubrication, tone and tissue health to improve female sexual function, treat stress urinary incontinence and restore the correct pH in the vagina which will reduce the frequency of vaginal infections.
morpheus8V device Morpheus8V provides an interchangeable portfolio of microneedling tips to deliver customizable fractional treatments to body, face and vaginal tissues used. It can provide an extra option for help with refractory stress urinary incontinence or severe vaginal dryness.

Stress incontinence

  • Urine leaks when pressure is exerted on the bladder through coughing, sneezing, laughing, exercising or lifting heavy items

Urge Incontinence

  • A sudden, intense urge to urinate followed by an involuntary loss of urine
  • Frequent urge to urinate, including through the night
  • May be caused by a minor condition such as infection or a more severe condition such as a neurologic disorder or diabetes

Overflow Incontinence

  • Frequent or constant dribbling of urine due to a bladder that does not empty completely

Functional Incontinence

  • A physical or mental impairment which inhibits getting to the toilet in time; (for example, due to severe arthritis you are not able to walk fast enough)

Mixed Incontinence

  • More than one type of urinary incontinence symptom

As with any muscle, the more contractions performed, the stronger the muscle will be. While a single pelvic floor treatment will likely provide mild benefits, optimal results are seen following a series of 6-8 treatments over 3 months. Patients return for maintenance treatment every 6-12 months.

No, there is no recovery/downtime with VTone. Results are cumulative and maximum results are felt 1-2 weeks after the last treatment. Some women report feeling a bit sore the day following their initial treatment, as is expected when starting a new exercise routine.

There are no negative side effects of VTone. Women with a history of a hypertonic or tense pelvic floor should not choose the procedure as their symptoms can worsen. Other contraindications are patients with cardiac pacemakers and internal defibrillators or any active electrical implant/device in any region of the body.
