Deep laser resurfacing

Dr. Samuels now offers CO2RE fractional laser resurfacing treatments. CO2RE precisely targets and treats superficial, middle and deep skin layers simultaneously. This allows us to provide, in a single treatment, the most appropriate procedure and maximum result for each facial area, with the least amount of downtime. C02RE Fractional Laser Resurfacing removes layers of skin tissue in a unique method that leaves the surrounding skin intact to aid in healing. It can help reduce age spots, fine lines, wrinkles, scarring, textural irregularities and dull tone and improve skin laxity.

For the reduction of deeper wrinkles and deeper skin smoothing in a session or two, Dr. Samuels and her nurse providers may recommend the Sciton Contour Profile laser or Candela’s CO2RE laser. Our laser options feature completely flexible depth settings to deliver a customized procedure. Dr. Samuels’ full resurfacing experience truly sets a new standard for smoothing by laser resurfacing. Dr. Samuels precisely vary the depth and effect of your treatment and accurately control the depth of the laser. This delivers optimal skin smoothing and will better match your skin condition and desired result. With deeper laser resurfacing, skin is evaporated layer by layer to the desired depth with heat (CO2) or without heat (Sciton Erbium). In general, the more heat used and the more depth achieved, the more recovery time needed, but in fewer treatments. Microlaser Peel is superficial (1-3 days healing time), while deeper laser resurfacing is more smoothing but needs 5-10 days of healing time. Dr. Samuels and our nurse providers will discuss your goals and recovery needs and design a customized treatment program around you and your skin type. Since laser therapy does not tighten skin as well as it smooths it, Dr. Samuels may recommend other modalities to tighten loose skin.

Conditions Dr. Samuels treats with deep laser resurfacing include wrinkles, epidermal nevi, acne scars, sun spots, age spots, hypertrophic or surgical scars and skin texture problems. Popular areas of treatment are the face, neck, chest and hands. 

After topically numbing and chilling the skin, layers of skin are removed to achieve the desired result in a 30-40 minute in-office treatment. Recovery varies from 5-10 days and includes redness and slight swelling, depending on peel depth. Most laser patients can be completely awake during the procedure. For patients who require a higher number of treatments, we may suggest other options such microlaser peels, Sciton BBL Hero or Sciton Halo. With these options, in-office treatment has almost replaced single-session deep-laser resurfacing as previously performed in the operating room under IV sedation. 

Prescription skin care will greatly enhance your ng-term laser results. In some cases, Dr. Samuels and her staff pre-treat the skin prior to the laser procedure. All patients are given specific post-laser skin care products at the time of scheduling, along with instructions on when to resume a long-term skin care program, which is also tailored for each patient.
